Bodybuilding has its share of ups and downs, and few IFBB pros know that better than Josh Lenartowicz. The gentle giant from Australia is a champion onstage and outside of competition, which is one reason he’s on the cover of this month’s MD. Lenartowicz had three pro wins to his credit in 2017 and was training for the Mr. Olympia when he was devastated (as was the entire bodybuilding industry) by the sudden death of his friend Dallas McCarver. It took Josh a while to regroup from that tragedy, but he got his motivation for the sport back, and was looking forward to competing in this year’s Mr. Olympia when he was sidelined by an unexpected health crisis.
“Things happen. You won’t always get green lights all the way to work,” said Lenartowicz, now recovered and looking forward to competing in the Arnold Classic USA and the Arnold Australia in 2020.
Read Josh’s compelling story of tragedy and triumph in “The King of the Gym Is Down But Not Out! Unfortunately, Health Scare Knocks Josh Lenartowicz Out of the Olympia.” As he tells Ron Harris: “I was shaking and exhausted. That and the painkillers killed my appetite. Every time I trained I would get a bad headache. I went into surgery at 303 pounds. Two weeks later I was down to 264.”One look at Hassan Mostafa’s tremendous overall thickness, wide structure, round muscle bellies and quads that billow off the hips, and it’s hard not to compare him to Big Ramy. Mostafa is among an elite group of bodybuilders on the rise from the Middle East. As he tells MD, “For many years, the bodybuilders in our part of the world didn’t think we could turn pro, and if we did, we never thought we could do well as professionals. That’s changing now, because what used to seem out of reach now seems possible.” Learn more about this humble and hardworking pro with gifted genetics in “Hassan Mostafa:The Newest Beast From the Middle East.”
Ever have a bad workout? Sometimes it’s because of lack of sleep, being sick or not eating enough. Other times you just might “not be feeling it,” and leave the gym without a sense of accomplishment. Those are the times when something needs to change fast to salvage your workout. Ron Harris has plenty of ideas to breathe new life into your training in “Rescue 911! 10 Ways to Revive a Dying Workout”
Akim Williams is a thick monster all around. People talk a lot about his huge legs, but even more so about his ridiculous biceps and triceps. Once he gets to the 300-pound mark, those round and full slabs hanging off his delts stretch the tape measure out past 23 inches. Learn how he fires up his big guns in “23 Reasons Why: How Akim Williams Trains His Monster Arms.”If you were at this year’s Bikini Olympia or just followed along at home with MD’s online coverage, you saw something special take place. Of the top four finalists, three were GAT Sports athletes! Janet Layug and three-time Bikini Olympia champion Angelica Teixeira are already established icons in Pro Bikini, and 23-year-old Lauralie Chapados from Montreal is rapidly becoming one of the sport’s most popular stars. All three represented the Bikini division and GAT Sports in stunning fashion this year at the biggest competition in our industry. Learn more about these stellar athletes in “GAT Girls On Top of the World!Janet Layug, Angelica Teixeira and Lauralie Chapados Slayed at the Bikini Olympia”.
